Hideout busted; AK 47, pistols among recovery

In a major achievement, troops of 49 RR, under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Romeo Force, in collaboration with a police team from Gursai police station in Poonch district, have busted a hideout of militants and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition.

The recovery included an AK 47 rifle, along with three magazines and 90 rounds, six pistols along with 10 magazines (two made in USA and four in Pakistan), one Chinese grenade, six Pika gun rounds, a mobile phone with Pakistani SIM, a knife, eatables, clothes and Rs 10,010 in Pakistani currency.

Neeraj Padyar, sub divisional police officer (SDPO), Mendhar, said on specific input, a search and destroy operation was launched by the Romeo Force in collaboration with Gursai police in a forest.

“The troops succeeded in busting the hideout, made in a thick forest under the jurisdiction of Gursai police station,” sources said.

The SDPO said after specific information from sources, a search operation was launched in the late evening hours on Monday and the hideout was busted.

“The consignment might have either been dumped for subversive activities in the area or for further distribution among terrorists in Kashmir valley,” Padyar said.

Taking cognizance of the huge recovery near Line of Control (LoC) the police have registered a case and have started investigation to track the over-ground workers (OGWs) who might have dumped the arms/ ammunition after collecting it from their counterparts from across the LoC.
