After a lull of four days, the Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Sunday evening.

Reports said three civilians were injured in the shelling in Shahpur village and were evacuated to District Hospital, Poonch. The injured have been identified as Khatam Jan (35), her minor son and Mohammad Arif (40).

“The exchange of heavy shelling is on and every possible measure has been taken for the security and safety of the people,” said Ramesh K Angral, Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, at the time of filing of this report.

The Pakistan army violated the ceasefire in the Sabjian sector around 4.30 pm and in the Shahpur sector around 5 pm. Both sectors fall in Poonch district.

“The intensity of the mortar shelling is high and the people affected in the Shahpur sector have taken shelter in the areas which are out of range of the mortar shelling,” said Manjit Singh.

“At all places, the Indian Army has been retaliating strongly and effectively,” said Lt Col Devender Anand, defence PRO.

On Tuesday, the Pakistan army had violated ceasefire in the Malti area of the Poonch sector and in the Mankot sector.
