Guv launches role model scheme

The J&K Role Model Scheme, introduced by the CRPF Special Director General, J&K zone, was formally launched by Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhawan here on Sunday.

The Governor also felicitated role models on the occasion.

He lauded the CRPF’s role in maintaining security in the state and also appreciated its role in the development of J&K. He complimented the force for carrying out a civic action programme in the state and observed that the programme was aimed at motivating and encouraging the youth to utilise the platform in order to prove their mettle.

The Governor noted that a role model was the one who becomes an icon in personal life and inspires others. “Youth of the state have the potential to compete at the national and international levels and there is a need to channel it in the right direction. The group comprising children have brought laurels to the state in various fields is an example in this regards,” Malik said.

He observed that more achievers should be identified and honoured under the scheme so that other youth get inspired. He noted that the initiative would go a long way in encouraging the youth and building a strong nation.

Complementing the achievers on the occasion, the Governor observed that the role models were the real wealth of society. He said the children should be present on ‘At Home’ function to be organised on Republic Day.

Earlier, Malik honoured 13 role models of the state and presented them with mementos. They included Hanaya Nisar, Rasikh Salam Dar, Rishab Verma, Bilquis Mir, Noor ul Haya, Jagmohan Singh, Diya Devi, Zainab Mushtaq, Dharam Pal in agriculture, Tufail Fayaz in academics, Shabir Khan in social service, CRPF Deputy Commandant Rigzin Angma in the sports category and CRPF Assistant Commandant Gul Junaid Khan in charge, CRPF helpline ‘Madadgaar’.
