Guv lauds Army’s role in grooming youth

Governor NN Vohra and Usha Vohra, First Lady, participated in the Yusmarg Festival organised by the Chinar Corps of the Army at Yusmarg today. The festival was inaugurated with the release of doves and balloons by the Governor and other dignitaries.

Welcoming the participants at the festival, the Governor observed that such occasions provided a joyous opportunity for the youth and their parents to get together and enjoy varied entertaining activities. He congratulated the Chinar Corps for providing a day-long outing not only to students of Army Goodwill School, Balapur, but to nearly a thousand boys and girls from various schools in Budgam district.

Appreciating the natural beauty of Yusmarg which is endowed with lush green surroundings and a meadow, the Governor prayed for the restoration of peaceful environment that would enable the youth to prove their potential in every arena of life.

The Governor and First Lady complimented the students who presented several attractive programmes and impressive martial skills. The Governor stressed the importance of youth being groomed to emerge as future leaders and thanked the Chinar Corps, particularly Maj Gen Raju, GOC Victor Force, and all officers of 44 Sector for organising the festival.

In the context of boosting tourism through organisation of such festivals, the Governor suggested to Mohammad Harun Malik, Deputy Commissioner, Budgam and Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, Chief Executive Officer of Yusmarg Development Authority, to examine that no construction activity was allowed which did not conform to the approved master plan and harmonised with the local scenic beauty.

A scintillating cultural programme comprising Kashmiri and Punjabi dances, Pahari song and Sqay martial art was presented.

The Governor and First Lady visited the stalls put up by the Army and the civil departments and interacted with the visitors. Major General BS Raju, GOC, CIF (V) presented the welcome address while Lt Gen JS Sandhu, GOC, 15 Corps, gave the vote of thanks.
