Guv, CM express grief over deaths

Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have expressed grief and sorrow over the death of six persons in a cloudburst in Thathri town of Doda district on Wednesday night.

The Governor, expressing grief over the loss of precious lives, conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of those killed in the cloudburst, triggered by a flash flood.

The Governor is saddened to also learn about the damage caused by the flash flood to residential and commercial properties and a school. He has advised urgent start of restoration work on the damaged properties and provision of relief.

The Chief Minister has directed the district administration to intensify rescue and rehabilitation operations, provide adequate medicare to the injured and make arrangements for shelter, food and other facilities for the people affected by the cloudburst and consequent flash floods.

Mehbooba has asked the Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary, to rush to Doda and oversee the relief and rescue operations. National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah have also expressed grief and shock over the loss of human lives due to the cloudburst. They prayed for peace to the departed souls and wished speedy recovery to the injured. They expressed solidarity with the families which lost their dear ones and sought specialised treatment for the injured.

Leader of the Opposotion in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has also expressed grief and shock over the loss of lives in the Thathri catastrophe and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

Azad urged the state government and the district administration to immediately arrange relief and rehabilitation measures for the people who had suffered.
