Guv briefed on fiscal reforms

Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment, and others, called on Governor NN Vohra here on Tuesday.

The Finance Minister apprised the Governor of the fiscal management reforms under way and the important programmes initiated for the welfare of the labour sector, including welfare schemes for building and construction workers, rehabilitation of child and bonded labourers, payment of provident fund, rationalisation, medical insurance of all government employees, etc.

The Governor stressed the vital importance of strict fiscal management and the need to tighten the size of the pace of socio-economic development of the state.

The Governor stressed the importance of employees’ welfare and urged Bukhari to ensure against there being any further delay in the regularisation of casual workers, a matter which has been pending since April 2016.

Jeet Lal Gupta, chairman, State Commission for Backward Classes, briefed the Governor about the functioning of the commission and the various steps being taken to promote and protect the social, educational, economic and cultural interests of the Backward Classes in the state. He also apprised the Governor of the various important matters concerning the Backward Classes which were still pending at various levels.

The Governor stressed the high importance of all required measures being taken for protecting and advancing the interest of the Backward Classes.

Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, state Chief Information Commissioner, apprised the Governor of the functioning of the commission and the quantum of work which had been disposed of during the past few months.

The Governor discussed with Ganai measures which required to be taken to visibly enhance the accountability, promptitude, efficiency and transparency in the functioning of the administrative machinery.

Meanwhile, a seven-member delegation of the Shiv Sena, Punjab, led by its national president Sanjiv Ghanoli requested the Governor to facilitate Amarnath pilgrims and provide toll-free entry into J&K of the buses carrying the yatris; drinking water facilities at the halting points en route the base camps; and cooperation and facilitation to be provided by the state police while travelling on the National highway towards the base camps. The delegation also demanded full protection for the yatris.

The Governor assured the delegation that all the issues raised by them will be addressed and advised them to create wide-spread awareness about the advisory issued by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board regarding the Do’s and Don’ts to be observed by the pilgrims.

Vohra greets people on Jyeshta Ashtami

Governor NN Vohra has felicitated the people of the state on the eve of Jyestha Ashtami. In his message of greetings, the Governor observed that Mela Kheer Bhawani was a shining example of communal harmony and brotherhood, which were the hallmark of the glorious pluralistic ethos of J&K in the past centuries. He prayed for peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in the state.
