Srinagar, July 11

Vigilance Director SJM Gillani, CID ADGP AG Mir and others had separate meetings with Governor NN Vohra during his visit to the civil secretariat here on Wednesday.

Gillani apprised the Governor of the present status of work being done by the State Vigilance Organisation and other matters. These included pending cases, reasons for delay in the finalisation of inquiries and the lodging of challans besides prolonged delays in the conclusion of proceedings in trial courts. The inadequacy of staff in the prosecution offices of the recently created anti-corruption courts and other issues also came up for discussions, an official spokesman said.

The Governor advised Gillani to prioritise the finalisation of the pending inquiries and launch a vigorous campaign for the offenders to be brought to book, the cases of higher-level functionaries being taken up in the first lot. The Governor asked him to send him a monthly progress report.

AG Mir, in a separate meeting, briefed the Governor about the work being done by his directorate and about certain arising developments in the state.

Mohammad Shafi Pandit, former chairman, J&K Public Service Commission, informed the Governor about the results achieved so far and the activities being presently undertaken to provide coaching to students who are preparing for the civil services examination and for admission to the IITs, particularly those belonging to the minority communities.

The Governor urged Pandit to vigorously continue his endeavours for promoting the prospects of youth on all fronts. Meanwhile, Engineer Rasheed, Langate MLA, in his meeting, apprised the Governor of the development-related challenges relating to his constituency and the adjoining areas.
