Ganai calls on Governor

Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), today called on Governor NN Vohra at the Raj Bhawan here.

Ganai apprised the Governor of the present state of functioning of the commission.

The Governor discussed with Ganai the possible measures that could be pursued to increase the accountability of the administrative apparatus and promptitude.

Meanwhile, a 16-member delegation of the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS), comprising retired senior civil, police, military officers, serving academicians and other eminent persons, led by its president Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister, met the Governor at the Raj Bhawan here.

The delegation apprised the Governor of its concerns about the delay in the restoration and revival of the Mubarak Mandi Complex, need for preservation of archives and documents of the Dogra period, revival of the Jammu festival to promote the Dogra art and culture, grant of enhanced annuity to gallantry awardees and their dependents, early acquisition of land for establishing two ex-servicemen colonies, abolishing the Lakhanpur toll barrier, holding early elections to panchayats and local bodies and strengthening of the institutions of chowkidars and lambardars.

The delegation also demanded safe shelters and basic facilities for the people living near the LoC and IB, checking drug menace and early deportation of Rohingyas.

The Governor assured that the issues would be taken up with the authorities concerned.
