The frequent transfers of deputy commissioner (DC) from Doda is hurting the interests of the district, as no officer is getting proper time to focus on the developmental needs of the area.

Besides, the post of the Doda DC has become a training job for newly promoted DCs as it has been seen that newly promoted IAS and KAS officers are appointed Doda DC.

Only once, Simrandeep Singh, a senior IAS officer, who had the experience of running districts and being on important positions, was given the task of running the district in July. However, he was transferred within three months and Anshul Garg, a newly promoted IAS officer, was appointed in his place.

Since 2014, only one DC, Bhupinder Kumar, has worked for two years as the district head. Others were transferred within a year. On July 19, 2014, Shyam Vinod Meena, IAS officer, took over as the Doda DC, but was transferred within six months.

Meena was replaced by Bhupinder Kumar, who was appointed DC Doda for 32 months. He was succeeded by Bhawani Rakwal, a KAS officer who was promoted DC for the first time and was given the task of managing the crucial Doda district. Within 10 months he was replaced by Simrandeep.

“It was after a long time that an experienced IAS officer like Simrandeep Singh was posted as the Doda DC. We had high hopes from him, but he was transferred within three months,” said Nisar Akhter, a lawyer from Doda.
