Former Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra and his wife Usha Vohra have expressed their condolences over the death of ex-chief secretary of the state Mohammad Iqbal Khanday.

In a condolence message, former Governor and his wife conveyed their grief to Mohammad Iqbal Khanday’s wife.

The former bureaucrat, the first IAS officer from Kashmir to be appointed chief secretary of the state, passed away after a long battle with cancer at SKIMS Soura in Srinagar on Sunday night.

“Khanday had worked with Vohra during the period of Governor’s Rule before Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s coalition government took over,” the message read. “They (Mrs and Mr Vohra) have prayed to the Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace.”

A direct recruit IAS officer of 1978 batch, Iqbal Khandey was born on November 15, 1955. He served on various key positions before being appointed as Chief Secretary in February, 2013.

He has also been principal secretary to the former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Funeral prayers will be held at Friends Enclave graveyard near Srinagar airport at 4 pm on Monday.
