Jammu, June 24

Taking a dig at the ruling BJP for its failure to extend the GST in J&K, the Congress today accused Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh of hoodwinking people on the issue.

The party chided the BJP leadership for succumbing before the separatists and the anti-national elements by delaying the extension of the GST to J&K.

In a meeting chaired by senior vice-president of the Pradesh Congress Committee Sham Lal Sharma, the party leaders said what could be a bigger travesty of truth that the BJP, which is the ruling party of the state, was unable to implement the “one nation one tax” slogan of implementing the GST and instead accusing the Congress. They said it was under the leadership of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the GST was conceptualised and the Congress-ruled states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and others had already implemented the GST and the Congress in the state was also strongly in favour of implementing the GST at the earliest.

The leaders accused the BJP of playing second fiddle to the PDP and it was facing an embarrassing situation in the country, particularly in the state, that even after calling a special session of the constituent Assembly they were unable to even place the legislation in the House.
