Srinagar, August 20

A day after a mysterious “blast” on the BJP office in the uptown Srinagar, the BJP on Sunday termed it as a grenade attack by militants.

“A grenade was thrown on the office premises which caused a minor damage to the building at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” a BJP statement read, after a meeting of the Kashmir unit. The party has condemned the “attack by militants”.

The J&K Police on Saturday evening claimed that there was no attack on the office of a political party.

“Some loud sound was heard, which is being verified. There is no apparent damage to the office or neighbouring buildings. The matter is being investigated,” a police spokesman had said.

The BJP claimed the attack was carried by the “anti-nationalists who were trying to suppress the bold voices of the Kashmir valley.”

“The acceptance and growth of the BJP in Kashmir has given sleepless nights to anti-nationalists who are trying to suppress the bold voices of Kashmir that want to take Kashmir to new heights. However, by these activities, our enemies have united us towards making the dream of the PM a reality in Kashmir,” national vice president, BJP youth wing, Aijaz Hussain was quoted as having said during the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Er Aijaz Hussian, party media secretary Kashmir Altaf Thakur, besides other senior office-bearers of the Kashmir unit.
