SRINAGAR: The CPM has demanded stern punishment to the accused in the rape incident of the three-year-old girl in the Sumbal area of Bandipora.

The CPM has demanded stern punishment to the accused in the rape incident of the three-year-old girl in the Sumbal area of Bandipora.

“The perpetrator of this heinous crime, irrespective of his religion, sect or community, must be given exemplary punishment. A devil is a devil and he has no religion or sect,” Tarigami said here.

He said the gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old nomad girl in Kathua last year was communalised. “Some vested interests are trying to divide our ranks and trying to take advantage of the Sumbal rape incident. We must guard against such people. We appeal to people to protest peacefully and not resort to any type of violence,” he said.

Meanwhile, the party expressed concern over the allegations of irregularities in the MGNREGA scheme in Anantnag and demanded a thorough probe.
