Consumer complaints must be addressed immediately: Guv

Governor NN Vohra attended the National Consumer Day celebrations organised by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Legal Metrology at the General Zorawar Singh auditorium here today.

The Governor emphasised the importance of sustained attention being devoted to protect the consumer rights in all spheres. He observed that the food department should ensure time-bound Aadhaar linkage of the ration cards and rationalisation of the scale of rations for the beneficiaries living in remote and difficult areas of the state. He noted that every problem faced by the consumers must be resolved immediately.

Vohra complimented Minister Zulfkar Ali and the FCS&CA department for achieving 97% digitisation of the department and for completing the process of weeding out ineligible households from the lists of valid beneficiaries.

The Governor further observed that we need to move towards a surveillance system, which enables increased involvement of the people in monitoring the public distribution system. He stressed the need to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels for efficient and problem-free delivery of services to the 1.19 crore beneficiaries in the state, particularly those below the poverty line.

He appreciated the cultural presentations by the students of the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar; Government Medical College, Jammu; and artistes of the Samooh Theatre, based on the theme of consumerism.

Zulfkar Ali, in his address, highlighted the series of initiatives taken by his department for promoting the welfare of the people and exhorted them to make full use of the lawand aggressively assert their consumer rights.


Publication released

Governor NN Vohra released a publication of the the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs titled ‘Towards Digital Revolution’, its annual report and a New Year calendar.
