President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) GA Mir has maintained that the Congress was capable of defeating the “communal forces” in the country which wanted to abrogate Article 370.

The JKPCC chief said the Congress was fighting the ongoing elections against the “divisive forces and communal agenda” of the BJP-RSS.

He was addressing public meetings in the Devsar Assembly constituency of Kulgam district, part of the Anantnag parliamentary constituency. He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties were using “falsehood and deceit to exploit people to serve their vested interests”.

Mir said the Congress alone could protect the special status of the state and would ensure equitable development of the three regions. He lashed out at BJP president Amit Shah over repeatedly raking up Article 370 in his election rallies to mislead people. He said Article 370 worked as a bridge between the state and the Centre, besides it had an emotional binding with the people in J&K.

“Whatever Narendra Modi or Amit Shah say in their rallies for public consumption is far from reality. They want to change the narrative, which will be defeated,” said Mir, who is the party candidate from the Anantnag constituency.

Mir also hit out at the PDP for ensuring the entry of the BJP and the RSS into the state. He said many right-thinking people had advised the PDP leadership not to align with the BJP because of its stand on Article 370. He appealed to the people to use the “opportunity of the elections to defeat the political exploitation and deceit on the part of the PDP and others”.
