Srinagar, January 11

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief GA Mir on Friday hit out at the former PDP-BJP regime for its alleged failure to “respect the mandate” by the people and claimed that the two parties had played emotional cards from time to time and misled the people on various counts.

Mir was addressing senior party functionaries, district presidents of Kashmir and Mahila Congress activists at the party headquarters here.

He asked the Mahila Congress activists and councillors and corporators, who were elected in the recently held urban local bodies elections, to serve the people at the grass-roots level.

The state Congress chief also cautioned against the designs of the BJP-RSS, which he said were desperate after losing three Hindi heartland states to the Congress. He said the BJP could go to “any extent to mislead the people for electoral gains”. He alleged that the people of the state had suffered due to the misrule and mismanagement by the previous PDP-BJP regime.

Several persons from the remote Gurez valley of Bandipora district, who were led by Ghulam Rasool Lone, joined the Congress on the occasion and vowed to strengthen the party in the area. Later, several youth from Srinagar district, led by Shameema Mir, also joined the Congress in Mir’s presence, a party spokesman said.

Congress spokesperson Farooq Andrabi and former MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani were also present at the meeting.
