CJ Gita Mittal, Justice Kumar awarded

CHANDIGARH: Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, Justice Gita Mittal, has been conferred with Justice PN Bhagwati Award, while Justice VR Krishna Iyer Award was conferred upon Justice MM Kumar.

Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, Justice Gita Mittal, has been conferred with Justice PN Bhagwati Award, while Justice VR Krishna Iyer Award was conferred upon Justice MM Kumar.

Former Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, Justice Kumar is currently National Company Law Tribunal President. As the Chief Justice, he dealt with PILs concerning Dal Lake, violation of the Master Plan in Srinagar, Jammu and Katra; popularised the use of videoconferencing and has the distinction of holding the courts during September 2014 when the High court building, the district court building and his own house were all flooded.

The honour was conferred upon Chief Justice Gita Mittal at the Capital Foundation National Awards by Andhra Pradesh Governor BB Harichandan and Supreme Court’s former Judge, Justice AK Patnaik in New Delhi on Sunday in recognition of her judicial work towards “Access to Justice” and her judicial innovation for designing “Vulnerable Witness Deposition Complex”.

Chief Justice Mittal was, last year, conferred with the country’s highest civilian honour for women, Nari Shakti Puruskar, by President Ram Nath Kovind.
