A civilian was injured on Thursday when Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling in the Nowshera and Keri sectors of Rajouri district.

Around 2 pm, Riyaz Mohammad of Pukhrani received critical splinter injuries when a mortar shell hit the area. He was taken to the Nowshera hospital and was later referred to the Rajouri district hospital.

Earlier, the Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling and firing at forward posts in the Mulie Mohra and PB areas in the Keri sector.

“The Army has been retaliating effectively and strongly in all sectors,” said Davender Anand, defence public relations officer. On Sunday, Rifleman Gurpreet Singh was injured in a sniper attack in the sector and was airlifted for treatment. On Monday, Border Security Force Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad was killed in a sniper firing by the Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in the Hiranagar-Samba sector of Kathua district.

On January 11, Major SV Nair and Rifleman Jiwan Gurung attained martyrdom in two serial IED blasts in Pukhrani, while other two had received injuries.
