The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) commander Javed Ahmad Mir in the case involving the killing of Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in a militant attack on the outskirts of Srinagar in 1990.

Mir was arrested by a sleuth of the CBI during a raid on his house in the wee hours today and flown out of Kashmir, sources in the police said.

“Mir has been arrested by the CBI in the IAF personnel case and is likely to be produced before a TADA court in Jammu,” a police official privy to the developments said.

Acting on a plea by the CBI, the J&K High Court had, on March 13 this year, allowed he transfer of proceedings and the writ petitions in the cases related to the killing of the four IAF personnel in the Rawalpora area of Srinagar in 1990 and the December 8, 1989, kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of the then Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, to its Jammu wing.

Earlier in 2009, the JK High Court had stayed the trial proceedings in both cases before a TADA court in Jammu while acting on a petition by Malik.

Mir, along with JKLF chief Yasin Malik, who is presently lodged in the Tihar jail in an alleged terror funding case, is one of the accused in both cases. Both these cases were investigated by the CBI.
