Dental college students threaten to resume strike

SRINAGAR: Doctors of Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) on Thursday threatened to resume their strike if their demands pertaining to academic issues were not resolved in a week.

SRINAGAR: Doctors of Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) on Thursday threatened to resume their strike if their demands pertaining to academic issues were not resolved in a week. "We are giving the authorities one week to solve our pending issues," said a statement issued by the Resident Doctors' Association of the GDCH. The doctors had called off the strike on March 20 after the government suspended Dr Muhammad Mushtaq, head of the orthodontics department. "After his suspension, the authorities didn't provide us a guide to whom we could submit our final thesis. If our thesis are not signed, Kashmir University will not allow us to take the examination next month," said Dr Rameez Hassan, spokesperson of the protesting doctors. TNS

Safina Baig is PDP women wing head  

Srinagar: The ruling Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday appointed Safina Baig, wife of senior party leader and Baramulla Lok Sabha MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig, as the president of the women's wing of the party. A party spokesman said PDP president Mehbooba Mufti nominated Safina Baig as the president of the women's wing of the party. "It is a great responsibility that has been assigned to me by Mehboobaji," Safina said. TNS

ONGC team apprised of Army's initiatives   

Srinagar: Officials of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Research Extension Association for Conservation Horticulture and Agroforestry (REACHA), an NGO, held an interaction with youth at the Army's Chinar Nau Jawan Club in north Kashmir's Baramulla on Wednesday. The club has been providing skill-oriented training in six different domains to the youth of Baramulla in collaboration with the ONGC since its inception. "The joint efforts of the Army and ONGC have provided fruitful engagement and livelihood opportunities to the youth of Baramulla," an Army spokesman said. SSC Parthiban, Executive Director and Chief, Corporate Social Responsibility, ONGC, along with his associate Kiran Nikam and Nikhil Pant, Principal Consultant, REACHA, associated with the club, visited the centre with an aim to provide an insight to the sponsors about the activities being carried out by the club. 300 stranded on Mughal Road rescued 

Jammu: Over 300 passengers stranded on the Mughal Road due to heavy snowfall and avalanche were rescued on Thursday, the police said. For the safe rescue of the passengers, a joint party trekked 8 km, the police said. Vehicles were stranded 4 km away from Pir ki Gali on the Mughal Road due to heavy snowfall and avalanche on Wednesday night.  After receiving calls from the passengers, a police team, Army and the Mughal Road authority were rushed to Pir ki Gali along with machinery to clear the debris dumped on the road, he said. Dogri poetry book released

A book titled “Mast De Rang”, a collection of Dogri poems by veteran poet and writer Krishan Lal Mast, was released at Abhinav Theatre on Thursday. The book was released by DK Vaid ‘Darshan Darshi’, convenor, Dogri language, Sahitya Akademi, Delhi; and Aziz Hajini, secretary, J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages. The programme was organised under the banner of Natraj Natya Kunj Cultural Society. TNS

Baisakhi celebrated

A two-day Baisakhi event organised by the National Institute of Fashion Design, Jammu, concluded on Thursday. The objective was to provide a platform to explore the hidden talent of students drawn from various schools and colleges across Jammu. The students participated in different activities such as face painting, jewellery making, fabric painting, best out of waste, junk illustration and PowerPoint presentation. On the first day, around 100 students exhibited their talent. TNS
