Jammu, December 10

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday expelled Gagan Bhagat, a member of the dissolved Assembly, on charges of “indiscipline and immorality”.

His expulsion came immediately after the Supreme Court dismissed a PIL filed by Bhagat challenging the dissolution of the J&KAssembly by Governor Satya Pal Malik.

Bhagat had earlier criticised the BJP leadership for withdrawing support to then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti which resulted in the fall of the PDP-BJP government.

The expulsion order by BJP president Ravinder Raina also included a charge of “immorality” against Bhagat, whose pictures with a woman had gone viral on social media earlier this year.

Bhagat, who was undergoing a suspension term, represented the Ranbir Singh Pura constituency. He will cease to be a member of the BJP with immediate effect, said the party spokesman.
