Srinagar, April 25

The 86-km-long Bandipora-Gurez road was thrown open for traffic after remaining closed due to heavy snowfall at Razdan pass.

The road was thrown open by Maj Gen CP Ponnappa, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 28 Infantry Division, in the presence of the Chief Engineer, Project Beacon, and the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora.

Maj General Ponnapa said the highway had remained open for an extended period last year due to the efforts of the BRO personnel. The GOC said over 32,000 people of Gurez get affected as the entire area remains cut off from the rest of the country during winter.

“This season, the work on snow clearance on the Bandipora-Gurez road commenced much earlier, resulting in its early opening,” the GOC said.
