Another arrest in heroin haul case

KATHUA: The Jammu zonal unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested the alleged buyer of 22-kg heroin which was seized from the Palli Morh on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway of Kathua district on Sunday.

The Jammu zonal unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested the alleged buyer of 22-kg heroin which was seized from the Palli Morh on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway of Kathua district on Sunday.

The arrested person has been identified as Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Rudiwala village of Tarn Taran district in Punjab.

“On the information revealed by the three Kashmiri youths who were arrested along with the contraband, a team of the NCB, Jammu, and NCB Amritsar sub-zone with the help of the local police laid a trap and arrested Paramjeet Singh at Transport Chowk, Jalandhar. Paramjeet was on the way to receive the consignment and was carrying Rs 17.49 lakh cash,” Varinder Yadav, NCB Zonal Director, Jammu unit, the reporters at Lakhanpur toll plaza on Tuesday afternoon.

The consignment, which first reached Kashmir from Afghanistan, was to be sold in Punjab by the drug smugglers, he added.

The officer did not rule out the possibility of links of narco-smugglers with terrorist groups, saying, “it is being investigated”. Yadav said this was the 11th seizure of narcotics drugs by the NCB zonal unit this year.
