JAMMU: The state excise department foiled a major smuggling attempt at Lakhanpur on Saturday and seized 700-kg poppy husk (bhukki), which was being smuggled from Srinagar to Punjab in a vehicle.

The state excise department foiled a major smuggling attempt at Lakhanpur on Saturday and seized 700-kg poppy husk (bhukki), which was being smuggled from Srinagar to Punjab in a vehicle.

An FIR has been registered under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act.

The team comprised excise and taxation officers Suraj Singh Jasrotia, Virender Singh Pawar, Sandeep Gupta, Sajjad Sofi and Varinder Gupta. Inspector Rakesh Chopra and Gagandeep Singh were also part of the team.
