Srinagar, July 20

As many as 7,742 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath on 23rd day on Friday.

With this, the total number of pilgrims who offered prayers at the cave has gone up to 2,24,340 so far this year.

The yatra began via both the routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal near Sonamarg in Ganderbal district along the Srinagar-Leh highway on June 28.

Though the yatra was suspended for a couple of days in the first week of July due to flashfloods and landslide in the Baltal area, it was resumed after the weather improved.

Meanwhile, in view of the safety of pilgrims, the yatra is being regulated and not more than 7,500 yatris are allowed to move from each base camp of Pahalgam and Baltal on a daily basis. The yatra this year will be concluding on August 26 that coincides with Raksha Bandhan.
