4 short films from state to feature at international fest

Four environmental documentaries from J&K will be showcased at the 9th CMS Vatavaran – Asia’s largest international film festival and forum on environment and wildlife, next month.

The film festival is scheduled from November 2-6 at Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Rajghat, New Delhi. The festival will showcase 113 best environment and wildlife films from across the world.

“This year, we received 10 films from Jammu and Kashmir, of which four films are nominated marking the transition of Kashmir’s thought process of being environmentally inclined. The films portray how Kashmir is becoming prone to the effects of climate change,” Sabyesachi Bharti, festival manager, said.

These four films from J&K are Global Warning-Kashmir Chapter and Saving the Saviour by Jalal ud Din Baba, September Himalayan Floods (Un) Avoidable Deluge by Dr Shahid Rasool and Inam-Ul-Rehman and Whispers of Warming by Anoop Khajuria.

The face of change, Bilal Dar, 18, the protagonist of Saving the Saviour by Jalal Baba, swachhata ambassador of Srinagar Municipal Committee and the face of Wular Lake, who was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself will be also coming to the festival.

Bharti said the theme this year was ‘Conservation for water’, which would delve on the issues of the inter-connectedness of climate change and water through a range of workshops and seminars.
