Over 29,000 youths from the militancy-hit areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi and Ramban have registered to join to the Army.

“The youth have shown great enthusiasm as over 29,000 of them have registered for a week-long Army recruitment rally at Reasi of Jammu and Kashmir,” an Army spokesperson said.

The Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform) of the Army is organising the recruitment rally from September 3 to 9 at the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) of the J&K Police at Talwara, Reasi.

“The recruitment rally was advertised for residents of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Ramban and Reasi. We have received an overwhelming response from the youth as over 29,000 of them have registered themselves online for the rally. More than 2,500 candidates from Kishtwar and Ramban reached for the physical fitness tests on day one,” Army spokesperson said.

The vacancies are open for six categories — Soldier (General Duty), Soldier (Technical), Soldier (Technical Nursing Assistance) (AMC), Soldier (Technical Nursing Assistance Veterinary), Soldier (Clerk, Storekeeper Technical) and Soldier (Tradesman).

“I always wanted to be part of the Army and I am fortunate that I have got an opportunity to serve my country,” an aspirant said.

“Now the standards and quality of recruitment has been raised very high because the youth has already been trained by the Army in various districts before appearing for physical tests in the recruitment rally,” the spokesperson said.

The Army said special emphasis was being made to make all the prospective candidates understand the process so that they didn’t fall prey to touts. The response, as seen in the recruitment rally, was an indicator of the desire of the youth of J&K to opt for peace and progress.
