Srinagar, November 11

Security forces killed two militants, including a suspected Pakistani commander of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, in the first-ever gunfight after J&K officially became a Union Territory.

Unfazed by the recent snowfall that continues to halt life in Kashmir, the security forces on Sunday afternoon launched an anti-militancy operation in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The joint teams of forces launched searches in Lawdara village along the Srinagar-Bandipora highway, over 50 km north of Srinagar around the suspected houses. As the combing operation was going on in the hamlet housed on the banks on the Wular lake, the hiding militants opened fire which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight. “In the gunfight, two militants were killed and two Army men were injured,” Bandipora SP Rahul Malik said. — TNS
