Chamba, April 22

The work to construct a multipurpose indoor auditorium at Rajpura, about 8 km from here, has been hanging fire since the laying of foundation stone last year. The project was approved by the previous Congress government to promote cultural activities in Chamba district.

Meanwhile, District Language Officer Suresh Rana said six bighas had been transferred to the Department of Language and Culture for the construction of the auditorium.

It would be one of the most advanced integrated multi-purpose auditoria in the state, he said.

A sum of Rs 6.80 crore had been sanctioned by the government for the construction under phase one.

“There may be threefold increase in the original cost by the time the project is completed,” he said.

The auditorium will have a seating capacity for 1,000 persons. Apart from porticos, green room, office rooms and guest rooms, it will be equipped with acoustics and sound system and state-of-the-art lighting. The auditorium was required to promote traditional folk culture and other entertainment activities.— OC
