Woman, boy among six buried alive in Kullu

KULLU: Six persons, including a boy and a woman, were buried alive when the car (HP-35-4541) they were travelling in was hit by boulders following a landslide at Bajir Baudi near Nirmand in Kullu district last night.

Six persons, including a boy and a woman, were buried alive when the car (HP-35-4541) they were travelling in was hit by boulders following a landslide at Bajir Baudi near Nirmand in Kullu district last night.

The commuters were reportedly going to Rampur from Nirmand while the landslide occurred and the vehicle fell down the gorge near the Sutlej. The incident came to light this morning when local residents spotted the wreckage of the vehicle and found the bodies trapped under the debris. The police and Army personnel called to retrieve the bodies.

Kullu SP Shalini Agnihotri said the deceased included Seeta Ram (45) of Duttnagar in Rampur, his wife Seeta Devi (38) and their son Manjit (13). They were reportedly going to attend a marriage ceremony at Pujari in Rampur.

She added that the driver of the vehicle Gurdyal Singh (28) of Jhiyara village in Nirmand and two other persons, likely from Haryana, were also killed.

The SP said the bodies had been handed over to the relatives after post-mortem examinations. She added that the police was conducting investigation.
