Mandi, November 12

Taking a stern decision against offenders who assaulted an elderly woman at Samahal village in Sarkaghat on November 6, the court today rejected the bail plea of all 24 accused and sent them to 14-day judicial custody.

The court has sent a strong message to religious fanatics to shun the practice of settling scores in the name of deities.

It is believed that many cases do not come into public domain because of unity in villages against the weaker section people. They harass the poor and threaten them with dire consequences. This case would have remained hidden had someone not recorded the video of the inhuman act and uploaded it on the social media on November 9.

The 70-year-old victim was assaulted, garlanded with shoes and paraded in the area in broad daylight but no one came to her rescue.

Talking to The Tribune, Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Gurdev Chand Sharma said the court had dismissed the bail plea of all 24 accused. The investigation is going on.
