Mandi, August 14

People heaved a sigh of relief as weather become pleasant in Kullu and Mandi district on Tuesday. Many families travelling from Shimla or Chandigarh side towards Kullu-Manali were stranded in Mandi on Monday night because roads leading to Kullu were blocked since morning due to landslide at several places. However, the road between Mandi and Kullu-Manali was restored for normal traffic on Tuesday morning.

Restoration work of roads, drinking water supply and electricity was underway to normalize the situation.

Deputy Commissioner Mandi Rugved Thakur said that around 168 roads had been restored in the district. Machinery and workforce had been deployed to restore the remaining roads. The restoration work will depend on the weather condition. Similarly, restoration work of drinking water schemes, which were damaged during landslides, was on in different parts of the district.

The DC stated, “Some miscreants have floated the massage on social media about declaration of holiday by the district administration in all public and private schools till August 17, which is not true. We had declared the holiday till August 14 in view of public safety.”

DC Kullu Yunus Khan said that the authority was struggling hard to restore the roads, water schemes and power supply in the district.
