New Delhi/Shimla, October 16

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today re-established himself as the supreme leader of Himachal Congress as he ousted arch rival and state party chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu from the post of party campaign committee chief in election-bound Himachal.

A miffed CM and some top Himachal Congress leaders met Rahul Gandhi this morning amid reports that most of them sought Sukhu’s removal and the CM to be installed as the campaign head instead.

This even as the Congress’ Pradesh Election Committee has cleared single names on 42 seats. Harsh Mahajan, Viplove Thakur, Vidya Stokes and Neeraj Bharti said they didn’t want to contest.

In the BJP camp, meanwhile, the inordinate delay in announcement of candidates for the November 9 Assembly polls continues.

While candidates for most of the 68 constituencies have been finalised, last-minute changes to accommodate women has upset plans of some potential candidates.
