Two-day All India Police Science Congress begins in Shimla

Technology is a double-edge weapon and, therefore, our police have to prepare in advance to convert future challenges into opportunities as criminals have gone hi-tech with internet revolution and social media said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, while inaugurating a two-day 46th All India Police Science Congress here on Thursday.

"Women safety and ending drug menace is the top priority of the state government, besides enforcement of law and order, awareness on crime and drugs could play a vital role in better policing,” he said.

Addressing the delegates, Director General Bureau of Police research and development Dr A P Maheshwari stressed on the need of integration of scholars and police.

Improvement in quality of investigations and use of modern technology in probe is the need of the hour as scientific evidence, which has more validity and reliability in the eyes of law can increase the conviction rate”, said DGP Himachal S R Mardi.

He said the resolutions adopted in the All India Police Science Congress would serve as a road map for all the police forces in the country.

The themes selected to meet the emerging challenges included social media and law enforcement, management of investigative case load, information security, crypto currency and its challenges and preventative enforcement with respect to narcotics, including cultivation.
