A khair tree in the middle of the Nurpur-Chinva- Bhugnara link road here has become a hindrance for the passage of vehicles on this route, thanks to the apathy of the Public Works Department (PWD), which has failed to get permission for its removal.

According to information, this road was constructed in 1996-97. The plying of vehicles, especially two-wheelers, at night is dangerous on this road, as many vehicles have met with an accident after colliding with the tree.

The PWD has repaired and maintained this road and now bitumen road surface is being laid on it, yet this tree has not been removed by the department. The tree standing tall at Chinva village on the Nurpur-Chinva- Bhugnara road has become a bane for the commuters of the area. Babli Devi, panch of Chinva ward of Ganhi Lagor gram panchayat, lamented that on many occasions, she had requested the authorities concerned to get the tree removed, but in vain.

She said, recently, two mobikes and a bus carrying marriage party had dashed against the tree, but somehow the passengers and bikers had a narrow escape.

In this connection, Dinesh Kumar Dhiman, Executive Engineer, PWD Division, Nurpur, said he would write to the SDM, Nurpur, for initiating action to get the tree removed from the road.
