Nurpur, December 11

The Chogan market of Nurpur town is facing traffic snarls these days. Frequent traffic jams have become the order of the day here. The narrow Pathankot- Mandi National Highway (NH) adds to the traffic woes.

Frequent traffic jams have made the movement of pedestrians difficult in the busy market. As there is no notified parking lot in the Chogan market, the light and heavy vehicles remain stranded alongside the road adding to the commuters’ woes during the day.

The NH has been witnessing traffic pressure and during the tourist season it increases manifold. Lack of parking facility and narrow road are aggravating the situation here. Intriguingly, the newly built bus stand on the Old Veterinary Hospital premises has also led to increased traffic jams in the past few months after its commissioning. The entry and exit points of the bus stand are narrow and as and when any bus enters or exists from the bus stand it creates traffic chaos on the NH.

In order to regulate traffic on the NH stretch at the Chogan market, one traffic police constable and one home guard jawan have been deployed, but the roadside parking has made the situation worst. The frequent traffic jams are affecting business activity in the market. The plying of vehicles on the NH at a high speed endangers the life of pedestrians in the market and also increases chances of road mishaps.
