Mandi, December 21

Several tactor-trolleys illegally dumped waste into the Suketi Khud in the town today. Debris could be seen dumped on the bank of the rivulet opposite the Tehsildar’s office.

Dumping into the khud along the bypass was going on since morning but the administration failed to take any step, said an eyewitness and a resident of the area.

He said the debris dumped into the khud could cause environmental problems.

After unloading the waste into the rivulet, the tractor-trolleys were seen passing through main markets, thus causing continuous disturbance to residents and shopkeepers, he added.

According to a judgement of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), anyone found polluting the rivers has to pay a fine of Rs1 lakh.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam said he would soon send a team to the spot and take appropriate action.
