Stray dogs maul boy to death in Paonta

In a horrifying incident, a seven-year-old boy was brutally attacked and mauled to death by six stray dogs at Amarkot village, Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district, the police said today.

Vicky, son of a migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh, had gone to a nearby market and was attacked by the dogs while he was returning home at Amarkot village in Paonta subdivision, they said.

The dogs bit the boy’s head, throat, neck and stomach, the police said, adding that he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. Hearing his cries, villagers rushed to his rescue and three of them also got injured by the aggressive dogs.

Locals rued that they had informed many a times the administration about wild dogs attacking animals and children, but it failed to act. The incident has caused panic in the area. Parents are fearing sending their wards to school now.

Village pradhan Rakesh Mehralu said the villagers would have to take steps on their own. “A sum of Rs 20,000 has been given to the bereaved family members,” SDM Paonta HS Rana said. A case has been registered in this matter, Paonta DSP Pramod Chauhan said. — TNS/PTI
