Shimla, November 17

The Shimla Nagrik Sabha, a citizen’s body, has given a 15-day ultimatum to the Municipal Corporation (MC) to revise the “inflated water and garbage bill” issued to consumers of the city.

“If the SMC fails to do it, we will gherao the Commissioner and Mayor,” the sabha said. President Vijender Mehra said it was shocking that the MC had issued bills for water, garbage and sewerage ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 to domestic consumers of the city.

Mehra said they had submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner stating that the Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited should revise the inflated bills. The company used to issue bills after six months and not every month, which had burdened the consumers of the city, he added. Sabha secretary Kapil Sharma said the residents should get the garbage bills at the doorstep as was the case earlier. The MC should first consult the residents before taking any new decision, he added.
