KULLU, DECEMBER 6

Representatives of various organisations of Kullu today submitted objections to SDM Anurag Chander Sharma against the toll plaza to be started by the NHAI on the Kullu-Manali highway at Raison. A committee has been constituted under the SDM which has invited objections till December 6.

Being the last date today, many people reached the spot and raised objections. They also said they would protest if a solution was not found out soon. Advocate Mohinder Singh said the toll plaza had been set up on a two-lane road and should be shifted to four-lane road.

President of the Kullu Fruit Association Prem Sharma said agriculturists had to carry produce to the local markets and cross the plaza many times during various fruit and vegetable seasons, which had put financial burden on them. Kullu-Manali Hoteliers’ Association president Anup Ram Thakur said green tax and Gulaba barrier were already there and imposing one more tax on commuters would hit tourism. The representatives gathered at the SDM office said various organisations had lodged objections. They said they would protest if the issue was not resolved within one month. The SDM assured the people that their demands would be put before the NHAI management.
