State Judges heading 3 high courts

This is the first time in the history of the state judiciary that three Judges of the state are heading three high courts of the country.

At present, Justice Sanjay Karol is heading Tripura High Court as Chief Justice, Justice Rajiv Sharma is Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court while Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary is the Acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Justice Sanjay Karol belongs to Garli village in Kangra district. Having obtained a degree in law from HP University, Shimla, he was nn Advocate General of the state from 1998 to 2003. He was elevated as Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on March, 8, 2007. Justice Karol also remained as Acting Chief Justice of the state High Court with effect from April, 25, 2017 and worked as such till October 5, 2018. He was appointed Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura on November 9, 2018.

A law graduate from HP University, Justice Rajiv Sharma enrolled himself as an advocate in the year 1982. Appointed an Additional Judge of Himachal High Court on April, 3, 2007, he became a permanent Judge on March3, 2013. He was transferred to the high court of Uttarakhand on September 26, 2016. He has also worked as Acting Chief Justice of Uttarakhand. Thereafter, he was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 13, 2018.

Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary enrolled himself as an advocate in the year 1983. He was appointed an Additional District and Sessions Judge on August 1, 1995 and elevated as Additional Judge of the Himachal High Court on January 21, 2012. Thereafter, he was appointed as a permanent Judge of the High Court on January 18, 2014.
