Dalhousie, May 21

Dalhousie MLA Asha Kumari has directed the officials of the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department to speed up work on the Rs 8.5-crore sewerage scheme for the hill town.

The MLA said here today that the scheme envisaged treating, disposing or recycling solid and liquid wastes, thereby saving the environment and ecology of the hill station keeping in view the increasing population and tourist inflow to the hill station.

Mentioning about the ongoing activities of the scheme, she said the work on 2.15 MLD capacity treatment plant with modern techniques would soon be started as preparation for hydraulic design of the plant was in the pipeline.

She said though efforts were being made to have treatment units at one place, it was not possible due to topographical conditions of the town as it would disturb the existing monuments. — OC
