Solan-based Shoolini University has received its first private endowment fund to set up a Centre for Cancer Research on the university campus.

The endowment fund of Rs 1 crore has been extended by Raj Khosla, a Thailand-based philanthropist and entrepreneur.

Shoolini University will release a matching grant for the establishment of the centre said Vice-Chancellor Prof PK Khosla.

The foundation stone of the centre was laid on Thursday by Raj Khosla’s wife Veera Khosla who said the centre would carry out research in the area of cancer biology to understand and control the disease.

Raj Khosla said he was impressed by the cancer research conducted at Shoolini University and was sure that the research work would help all patients across the globe. The fund will be utilised to work on cancer immunotherapy, modulating redox behaviour, drug discovery through natural products, nano-carriers for drug delivery, epigenetic regulation as well as yoga intervention.

Shoolini University had published several research articles and patents covering various aspects of cancer biology and the centre will further boost this initiative.

PK Khosla said the centre was likely to be completed and made operational within one year. — TNS
