The sluggish pace of the road widening work on the Anni-Luhri highway has irked villagers of Kullu district, who are facing difficulties in transportation because the main highway has been closed for construction work since December last year.

According to residents, the NHAI has entrusted the work to a company in the region. They alleged that the NHAI had requested the DC to stop traffic on this route to accomplish the work.

Residents have been taking the alternative route since December, which is causing trouble to them because of the poor condition of the link road.

Satish Kumar of Behna village said people of eight villages, including Behna, Chhanvti, Karsha and Firnu, were affected.

He said earlier, the traffic was stopped from December 22 to February 22 on this route to complete the work but due to non-completion of the work, the date had been extended till March 28.

Residents are urging the government to direct the NHAI to speed up work on the Ani-Luhri highway.

DC, Kullu, Yunus Khan, said, “The task of clearing a section on the highway between Luhri and Anni has not been completed. I have directed the NHAI officials to complete the work till March 28.”
