Shimla, August 5

As many as 200 sewer workers today stormed into the office of Mayor Kusum Sadret  under the banner of the STP Workers Union and  demanded a wage hike.

Rajinder Singh, a sewer worker, said:  “I have seen people closing their nose when they cross sewage treatment plants (STPs) because it emits stench.”

“But we are getting a paltry Rs 6,500 per month for the past 15 years,” said Daleep and Madan Lal, who, along with CITU  leader Vijender Mehra,  pleaded their case for a wage hike with the Mayor.

They should be brought under the Sehb society and be provided all benefits of EPF and gratuity, said Mehra. — TNS
