HP Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Hans Raj said under the five-year genetic improvement of sheep project for Gaddis, a sum of Rs 1.32 crore has been earmarked to be spent this year in Chamba district. The Animal Husbandry Department has been allocated the fund.

Speaking at a camp organised by the Animal Husbandry Department for sensitising farmers at Dehgran in Churah subdivision of the district on Wednesday, the Deputy Speaker said the state government had started many schemes in animal husbandry and poultry sectors with subsidy provisions.

The Deputy Speaker said these avocations were the backbone of rural economy and it could transform the income of farmers manifold.

Hans Raj exhorted the farmers to adopt new techniques in poultry farming also. He also stressed the need for adopting tourism, agriculture and horticulture as self-employment opportunities.

Earlier, during the technical session, specialists from the department shared important tips regarding artificial insemination, cattle management, sheep, goat and poultry farming and other welfare schemes for the shepherds and farmers.

On the occasion, Hans Raj assured upgrading of Bairagarh and Jhajjakothi veterinary dispensaries to veterinary hospitals. He also distributed free mineral mixture kits to various local farmers.
