The road leading to Dagshai cantonment from Dosarka near Dharampur caved in on Friday evening following downpour.

The excavation for widening of the road is under way on the national highway by GR Infraprojects. Though a breast wall is being erected, the downpour destroyed a sizeable portion of the road.

Though as per initial alignment, GR Infraprojects was supposed to expand the highway towards this road, the unavailability of defence land, where a vehicle workshop exists, forced the firm to restrict the cutting work.

The width of this road has been considerably reduced after the expansion of the highway though heavy defence vehicles also use this road to reach Dagshai.

Commuters had to take a detour from Kumarhatti to reach their destination while others risked walking through the narrow rickety portion of the left-over road to reach Dharampur. Students, who commute to various schools from Dagshai, are especially inconvenienced as their school buses could not reach in time. Their parents are seen walking their children through the risky road to help them board the school buses and cabs.

The defence authorities had undertaken some repair of this road a few months ago while other two roads connecting Dasgshai from Kumarhatti and Gandhigram are in a pitiable condition with gaping potholes, causing immense wear and tear to vehicles. Commuters preferred to use this road through Dosarka as it was the only road to Dagshai cantonment which was in good shape.

Officials of GR Infraprojects said the downpour destroyed the excavated road as well as underconstruction breast walls and once the rain subsided, the repair work would be undertaken.
