Palampur, July 9

Residents of Maranda town and its adjoining areas of Palampur on Monday lodged a protest over frequent power failure.

They alleged that despite repeated complaints, no steps had been initiated to streamline the power supply of the town.

The residents alleged that that most of the equipment installed by the HPSEBL at the Maranda power sub- station like transformers, conductors and switch boxes had already outlived its life resulting in frequent power breakdowns.

They said they had complained a number of times in this regard to the HPSEBL officials at Palampur and asked for the replacement of old and outdated equipment, but all in vain.

The residents also apprised Health Minister Vipan Singh Parmar, who is also the local MLA, of the erratic power supply situation and requested him to get the power transmission system of Maranda town overhauled. The asked the minister to direct the HPSEBL to stop unannounced power cuts immediately. — OC
