Religious fervour pervades Mandi as Saranahuli fair takes off

The three-day Saranahuli fair began here today.

Forest Minister Govind Singh Thakur, who was the chief guest, said the area around the Prashar lake in Mandi district would be developed for eco-tourism purposes in coming days.

He said the Forest Department would spend Rs 2.19 crore to develop necessary infrastructure for eco-tourism around the lake.

There was a need to protect the ecology of the area while also developing necessary infrastructure for tourism purposes. The minister said there was great potential for adventure sports such as paragliding and skiing in the area. “The government will conduct a survey for the possibility of adventurous sports here. It will also generate self-employment opportunities for the local youth,” he added.

The state government was preparing a detailed project report of tourism projects in the state under Asian Development Bank funds and the Prashar lake would be included in it.

The minister said the state government would introduce electric buses in the Prashar lake area.
