Release leader: Dalit body to Prime Minister

The Chamba District Scheduled Caste Welfare Association has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate release of Dalit leader Chandershakhar alias Ravan. Chandershakhar, who has been in the jail for some time, has been indicted under the National Security Act (NSA).

In a press note issued here today, association president KL Shah said a representation showing resentment against UP Government had been forwarded to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Chamba.

Criminal cases had been registered against the leader at Shabirpur village of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh in May this year, Shah said adding that to avoid arrest, he went underground and was finally arrested from Dalhousie in Chamba district.
